Leverage Loss Aversion

UX Best Practices

Loss aversion is the psychological principle that losing something feels roughly twice as bad as gaining the same thing feels good. People are more motivated to avoid losses than to achieve equivalent gains.

In UX: Frame actions in terms of what users might lose by NOT acting, rather than what they'll gain by acting.

"Don't miss out" is more motivating than "You could benefit." But use ethically — genuine value, not manufactured urgency.
