How-to-tips are contextual guidance elements that help users accomplish tasks. They include tooltips, onboarding tours, inline hints, coach marks, and help text.
The key is progressive disclosure: don't overwhelm users with all information upfront. Show tips when they're relevant to what the user is currently doing.
