Help User Avoiding the Cue

Behavior Change Strategies

To change an existing behavior, one strategy is to help the user avoid the cue that triggers the unwanted behavior. If the trigger never fires, the behavior doesn't happen.

This is based on the habit loop: Cue → Routine → Reward. By removing or avoiding the cue, you break the loop at its start.

Example: A social media detox app that blocks notification cues, or a shopping app that lets users hide "sale" notifications.
